I am a banana newbie. My first 10 TC plants I bought from Florida online, I have had 5 survivors.
Here are my two dwarf cavendish ones that have thrived and are just beautiful. I have had to barely water them due to the torrential rains and cool weather the Dallas Metroplex has been having. Saw some at the plant store this weekend and mine are truly way better looking and almost perfect specimans ![]() Truly love watching these babies grow. |

We are holding up good!, thanks for asking! Bananas at 11 weeks and baby boy at 3 weeks. Rain and thunder is helping everyone sleep a tad longer.
My nanner in the ground is probably the worst of the bunch. She has been in a clay puddle for about two weeks. It drains and then she gets puddled back up. I am debating whether I should dig, clean the corm and cut roots and pot in a container or just leave in the ground and hope the torrential rains end sometime soon.... She is about half the size of my container nanners, I am getting worried. |

Jmho, but I would pull it out and temporarily pot it indoors until the rain is over for sure. What species is it?

Looks great! I have two D.C. in planters the same age as yours...look identical. Its amazing how fast they grow!!! I have a few Cal golds and 3 basjoos in planters too..that are now really starting to grow as well. I am in OK..so the rain was non stop for a month. I had one basjoo and one Cal gold...in the ground with great soil...but below that..everyrhing is clay so...only so much could drain and those got root rot. At least i have a others to watch grow this summer.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Looking good gmichael! No more red coloring, all green here. Though I dont know if they are dwarf cavendishs really. I got mine mixed after I thought I killed them when they were babies. Next year I need to do better on my labeling system.
4 Months in and I think I got this Banana growing thing down. Been a good education on these dudes. So far, Pups galore, plants seem to really be loving my twice a day watering and the heat in Texas, though I have noticed the leaf production slowing down to about a leaf every two weeks instead of one a week as it was in months 1-3. This week it has been 100+, the hottest part of the year in Texas, and my babies are rockin. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey, wanted to check in and see how your plants are doing.
I'm also looking for advice on which edible varieties to choose for our area, I'm south of Fort Worth 10miles by Burleson. :-)
