Default Raja Puri winter hardiness

I have overwintered a Raja Puri without winter protection and it bore fruit mid July 2009. Carmichael, CA.

Winter temps near or below freezing but warming to the mid 40's to 60's during the days. Coldest night was 27 degrees.

I cut the leaves off and laid them around the base of the plant to repell water and keep the soil drier. It sits on the south side of a row of 6' tall Mandarins, and gets some wind protection.

Pics in my album of it in full bloom!

Microfarmer:
I am a little bit confuse now. I am also in zone 9 and I would like to know the best possible way I can overwinter my bananas. You said you cut all the leaves off and laid them around the base of the plant. Did you cut the leaf spears too? Up to how far from the top of the pstem?
But someone said that he overwinter his bananas just by bending all the leaves to protect the pstem from the cold and the leaves will turn brown when the tempt hits zero tempt. So I have not decided yet which one will be better for me.
If I do yours, will it be better to put a plastic can liners on top of the pstem to protect it more from the cold?

Benny

we got down to 19F so I'm using a heat tape and keeping 4ft of the trunks wrapped in straw, burlap, and water capped.
