:08: That plant was HUGE.

It makes my Giant 20 Foot Morados look skinny, and Morados don't even bend in a cat. 1.

Does the PK have a weak pseudostem?

Don't think the pstem is weaker or stronger than any other tall naner. The problem is the long wide big leaves that catch too much wind. And with the weight of the mature bunch somethings gotta give,. We get very violent gusts at the approach of a strong cell. And it's over in a minute or two.

One thing that will never happen is for the corm to get uprooted. This thing roots and pups deeper than any other naner I've grown. Removing a 7 or 8 ft pup is a 2 man job. Unless you circle the corm with a shovel to sever the roots. Which I don't like to do.

It will be interesting to see how things go at the Ae Ae end of the row of mats. There are 5 tall naners planted next to each other - Ae Ae, Morado, tall ARH, Pisang Klotek and Njalipoovan.

Neat analogy. Gives me an idea for my boat. Next time I go out I could take a big potted PK laid down on the deck. When I'm ready to go in I could stick the pot in the forward hatch and tie the pstem off to cleats. Steer like normal and forget the trolling motor. But then I'd wind up on the local news --- "Local yahoo rides boat home with banana sail." lol

I don't see fused hands!???

And they sort of look Orinoco-ish. You got this one from one of those HI nurseries that sell Namwah Blue Javas?:ha:

They actually are mostly fused, the unripe hands more so, but they did become less fused as they grew. This was a TC from Aloha Tropicals, the only 1 of 8 so far that was actually what it was supposed to be.

They have a dense texture like other Saba types I've tried. Not fluffy like Orinocos, and the fruit aren't as large. Here's another view.

Better than I expected, but they weren't really totally ripe yet, despite the color. Steamed some of the yellow ones, which were good, with a little salt. I'll do a better taste report once these are a bit more ripe. A little vegetal tasting at this point.

Unlike me, you got lucky that you didn't get a bloom after the normal growing season had ended. :ha:
