Bananas Brindando Tigua Planted-to-Flag in Nine Months

Baby popped her first meaningful growth on August 23, 2015. Here she is on May 24, 2016, nine months removed from planting. Not terribly fast, but I suspect the next generation will be. I may be the first to fruit Tigua in the States and will be mailing all the fruit from the plant crop to interested members.

Here's some State-side French Red porn. I expect a bloom within the next couple of months.

I should note that Tigua is a bit taller than I expected it to be. The petiole length makes this plant really stand out among more typical cultivars. It is very elegant-looking next to the busy monstrosity of a Morado. I'll hold a pole on it tomorrow, but it is every bit as tall as the neighboring Mysore that's currently holding 16 hands. Another observation is that it produces way more pup clusters than any of the twenty other cultivars I'm growing--and repeatedly. An offshoot will develop a multi-crowned p-stem structure: one nubbin will crown, then another, and another. I had about four pups that lined up single-file and stalled at a uniform phase of development at one point. And the plant has produced three other clusters of at least three. Normal, predictable suckering seems to not be the norm at this early point in the life of the mat, although I have a follower and two other sword suckers ready to send to members. I have a picture from a month ago that illustrates this point.
