Wow. Is it normal to get such a huge crop of pups off of one banana plant at the same time?

I worked on a farm in Thailand and we'd get maybe 1-2 growing at a time. Maybe once I saw three.

Are there so many because you left them there long term? We generally cut them off and replanted as soon as they were big enough to handle the transplant.

I think it was from leaving it in the pot so long. I had three different pots full like this. They were in the pots for two years, and very little water there wasn't any soil left

This is a Little Prince pup that I have been rooting in an AeroGarden. The new leaf that was coming up has opened and another leaf is coming up now. So the newest leaf will be the first one that will be grown since the pup has been in water.

It has grown roots since being in the warm water

The leaves were burnt from being outside and I cut off the leaf with the most burn.

This new leaf that is now opened shown above.

JaNan,
How big are the pots you are using? We want to use 15 gallon pots but some think that is too small. All we want to do mostly is grow pups for sale. Trying a few different ways of getting them to pup faster but the weather is going to change fast now so next spring we will resume. Good camera work. I have to start thinking before I shoot so I can get quality pics again also. Thanks

Re: Some Banana Pup Pictures

Noah, I am getting a lot of pups because the Mothers' are all stressed by the weather. All the brown leaves around them are from the Mothers' losing their own leaves from heat and sun stress. I am leaving the brown leaves on as they are offering some protection from the weather. Some of the Mother plants have actually already died, but they are really pupping well. I have pots all the way up to 50 gallon, but most of these pups are in 5 gallon pots. This one in particular has made a bunch of pups.

Same corm with close ups of more pups coming up.

These are different plants.

Re: Some Banana Pup Pictures

the beginning Of this thread Jananas Bananas stated that her mother banana was killed by pee.. Is this any pee, certain animals?? I have dogs there only about 10 pounds but when i finally get my banana's in the ground should I be worried that they could kill my plant.. If so I'll keep them away, plant it where they cant get to it or put in in a fence.

My dwarf Red must be happy. It is finally getting some size on the leaves, and the pups are springing up. It has 7 so far. I guess this one is a survivor.

Dwarf Red - had 12, gave one away. Beginning to develop regular leaves.

Saba - has 8 pups, largest has a p-stem about 4 ft high, and the leaves are about 3 1/2 to 4 ft.

Even MORE growth on mystery plant pups...These things have 1.5 feet of p-stem now and are quickly gaining on the mother!

I think I'm going to have to cut one or both of them off soon.

That is the kind of fine root growth I get with mycorrhizae dusting of the roots. Combined with hot weather. Without both, not so much.

What's the variety? The fat wide leaves suggest Hua Moa or a very healthy Goldfinger.
