Is chloride present in potash? I am using Stokes 6-2-12 fertilizer. This fertilizer has 12 percent water soluble potash. Is this potash derived from potassium chloride or potassium sulfate? I certainly hope it does not have chloride ions because this is very toxic to some plants near the bananas.

KCl is the likely source of K in your fertilizer. There should be a tag on your bag detailing the constituent sources of elements in your fertilizer. Sulpomag could be a possible source, but it is more expensive and tends not to be used.

This fertilizer cost $3.00 per pound. No chloride is listed on the tag. It could also be potassium carbonate.

I watered this fertilizer in with water very very throughly. I only applied about one cup and spread it as evenly as possible more than 4 feet from the trunk. So hopefully the banana plants will not burn. This is a controlled release fertilizer over 3 months.
Will Osmocote 15-9-12 slow release fertilizer work for banana plants? Too much nitrogen? |

If the fertilizer is granular, you'll be able to pick out the potassium chloride due to its reddish color. The chlorine will leach out of the soil over time.
It should be on the label like already mentioned. I've used osmocote plus on bananas and it works well. I'm not sure how well it would work for fruiting bananas though.
