Awesome, Jarred!

How tall is the plant?

MediaHound 06-15-2007 08:27 AM

Re: Red Kru blooming

Probably about eight or nine feet of pseudostem, maybe 12'-13' overall.
I'll post an overall picture of the whole plant so you can see.

Very cool! It looks like a single plane plant. Are they all that way?

Re: Red Kru blooming

This is one of the ugliest bananas I'm growing!

It's a slow twist. It's not on a single plane like Strelitzia but in photos it looks that way.

I say it's one of the ugliest because the leaves quickly brown at the edges and get real tattered. The pseudostem can't be cleaned up really well, there's always an abundance of fiberous brown dead matter no matter how much you try and peel off it comes right back, so I leave it alone. And the colors aren't really anything to write home about.

The bud is emerging today. Between this rain I'll try and snap some new photos.

My Re Iholene is similar - leaves get gold and tattered pretty quick and the pseudo stems are always shaggy.

Sounds to me like you guys are not quite the surgeon of pseudo stems that I am! I go after mine with a single edge razor blade and get all that brown stuff off! :2727:

Congratulations - awesome pics and fruit. Is the pink colour confined to the skin or are the ends of the fruit slightly coloured too?

Re: Red Kru blooming

The fruits are silghtly golden yellow:

This one had split open while still hanging from the plant, it's from the empty peel you see if you look close at the pics above.

Re: Red Kru blooming

Yes, I tasted the last bunch I had a few months ago. They are fruity and delicious! One of my favorites. The bunch bloom to ripening time is very fast, too. The colors are awesome. So many reasons why I like it, but yes, the flavor is way superior to store bought bananas. They are very fruity aromatic and sweet.
