Should I remove any of these pups? How do I decide which pups to remove and when to remove them?

The cool part about these plants is ......you can divide and just have new plants..
Here is a pic of a plant that will be divided.....looks just like yours. Go ahead and divide....you will never know till you cut the apron strings.. pups in zone 5by Hostafarian, on Flickr |

Thank you, Cinncinnana. I hate to be thick about this, but will all those pups--the four little ones around the three large pseudo stems, produce bananas? Which pups do not produce bananas--water pups or swords? Thanks.

those will all produce bananas. they are sword suckers. maiden/broad leaf pups will flower eventually too, but they take longer. i think the sword suckers have a more developed corm that is more strongly attached to the mother.

Thank you, merce3. That's good news. So I'll wait until they get about 2-3 feet tall and divide them, as was previously suggested by cinncinnana, for more banana plants.
