Pisang Klotek bites the dust! Almost.

Went out to work in the garden in the AM and started watering the pots when I happened to glance over at the banana mats. I froze in shock!!! My PK, loaded with fruit, had broken in half and the leaves were touching the ground. Couldn’t see the fruit bunch. Went over to find the bunch still attached hanging a foot off the ground. No sign of impact. We must have had some strong wind gusts come thru at night. AGAIN!

Soooooooo – I got an idea to prop the top of the pstem up since the fruit was undamaged and the pstem was still attached. Found an old plank that was about the right length and cut a knotch in one end. Folded up a small towel and placed it on my head. Facing the pstem I centered my head under the peduncle and lifted up the top of the tree. It was heavy. Since there no cracking noises (from my skull) I went ahead with it and used both hands to drag the plank up and under the peduncle. Stopped when I got the plank to my nose.

THERE – I FIXED IT!!!

You just need a banana crane to hoist it back up. Nice looking bunch!

How close are you to harvest? I'm curious to see how well this works. Looks like a good plan to me. I would hope that it would be enough to get by. I'm sure it wasn't easy getting it back up and supporting it. The only way I could see improving this is to get it more vertical, but that would be tough to do by yourself.

Oh and I'm a little jealous of such a nice bunch. If you have already done so in the past, I would be interested in reading a taste report.

If I had left the PK the way it was it the bunch would have finished filling in and ripening just fine. The pstem at the break is intact. But I have to work around there and need to pass thru with yard cart.

BTW--- did anybody notice the mess the follow on pstem is in? The last 3 new leaves are huge and got snapped and folded over to the opposite side they emerged from. Gotta get out the big ladder and fold them back or one day the cigar leaf will be trapped for good.

This tall guy is a pain but the fruit is worth it. One of the most complex banana flavors I ever tasted. Just ask Momo or Jon Pitangadigo.

That is a very tight pinch. I hope it works. It did not for me on a Tall Namwah that did the same thing. If yours are fully filled or at least most of them are they will start to turn yellow and ripen just as you hung it in your house.

Treb --- you gave me an idea. I could tape a piece of fruit on the bent pstem and have the camera ready. But then he might see the bunch ----------- never mind.
