Patupi from bare corm to leaf pics

Here's a pic of my Patupi as bare corm 04/06/2015 (top right corm in pic) then with leaves 6 weeks later on 05/19/2015,it's making a beautiful colorful plant

The corums don't have any roots. How and why are they removed?

They were removed when cleaned for shipping,they grow new roots within a couple of weeks

Hi JB,
Looks like you got your corms from PR Giants. I got a Veinte Cohol and a Patupi from them a week ago. Your Patupi looks great! How long till they started growing? The waiting game is so hard.

Thanks Mark,

I put the corms in pots with potting soil and let them sit under my carport for approx. 4 weeks until they had a good root system then I planted them on a semi raised bed of good soil since my yard is hard clay;the patupi started really pushing out leaves within 2 weeks of planting (it had 2 very tiny leaves upon planting).Just be patient,don't water the pots or put them in the hot sun until you at least get roots & leaves start to push out.Good luck and remember that patience will pay off

I planted mine directly in my garden. Rich, well draining, loose soil. It looks like the centers of both plants are starting to push up. Mabe the outside layers are shrinking. We will see. How do you treat your plants for the winter? Good luck with your plants.

I plan to pot the patupi and keep it in the house but not sure yet what else I'll bring in & what I'll just cut back and heavy mulch for over-wintering.

For me it seems too risky to over winter my plants outside. Not because of the cold, but because of all the rain. My ground drains well, but it rains for days on end in the winter. Soggy ground and dormant banana plants doesn't sound like a good idea. I might try it with a Basjoo but that's it.
