As I said before, I have no idea whether Marguerite is ornamental, or edible, but I liked the color.

The Musa Margarita's arrived today healthy and small. To be fair I have changed the price to $5 or 4 for $15. I will post some pics once I can bring them outside and see what there true color will be (probably 2 months). I do not beleive it's safe to ship before than anyway as the banana's are just 5" tall. I'll keep this price until I am down to 6 left.

Ok some are reaching 10" to the top of the new leaf. 1 week I will be able to send them to warmer climates depending on what the weather is doing up here. To all that are interested in zones 8b and warmer, please send me a PM and I will give out my address for checks along with shipping costs.

Angry Re: New Siam Ruby

QUOTE, I was just looking at these yesterday on the Agristarts website. Unless I am reading it incorrectly, these are like $1.00 per plantlet, minimum order of 72, plus shipping. If shipping and handling comes to $28 (assumption for round numbers) that's $100. for 72 plants, or around $1.39/plantlet. How do you come up with $15/plant, plus shipping?

Am I missing something?[/quote]

this is what pisses me off why dont everyone go and apply for a tax id number agri-starts is for dealers that are trying to make a living selling plants to the public not for everyone to buy from i seen a post of ppl getting tray orders together lol its hard these days to sell a plant for 5 bucks let alone 10 i just order a tray of saim rubys and about 10 other bananas i think im gonna order about 5 grand more of **** and just give it to however wants and ill pay the shipping too and tear down my green house and burn them anyone notice that agri-starts dont list the prices anymore on there site cause everyone looks on there and and comes to my place or goes online and bitches says they aint gonna pay that much they arent even gonna pay 5 bucks they want them for a $1.01 they get there plant and i make a profit 1 cent per plant yeah really pays to be in this business these days it hard enought to pay the heating bill and the soil and pots the eletric bill water bill and my time is worth something i think i got kids to feed too im sorry to be a bitch but hey next time i post a wanted add just remember I WANT ALL YOUR PLANTS FOR FREE! Wow , well that's one direction to take. It's good to see that Agri-Starts has removed there online pricing although a little late I have always respected nurseries both online and local for what they provide, granted I usually frequent the one who offer a good deal but in some cases quality takes the front seat. Well that's my 2 cents

Chris, you really need step back and relax.

You've posted this in the main banana forum, not in your own personal classified ad. This is the same forum where people give away plants to other forum members, offer free advice, etc. Also, being in business, you should be prepared to have people question your pricing. That is something that comes with the business. The problem isn't that Agri-Starts published their prices but that people don't consider the order size required, costs of growing to a larger plant, and need to cover one's overhead in a business. Along with that, people aren't accustomed to seeing someone advertise something for a profit in the main banana forum.

I asked before but don't see that you've addressed this: where is it that you see that Agri-Starts requires a customer to apply for a taxpayer I.D.? When I discussed an order with them before this was never brought up. My farm sales are reported under my social security number (which is my taxpayer I.D.) even though I have a reseller's permit, Employer Identification Number, etc. You also once stated that a customer needed to be incorporated. That's just not right.

Sure you're entitled to a profit. But when you post on this forum other members are also entitled to ask questions without getting replies with profanity.

Good luck,

Harvey

Well said Harvey.
There are other forums that won't let businesses use their forum to sell goods. Although, they can pay to advertise there (example: MillerMackenzie).

So are you saying that these are the margaritas, right? Oh sure, I'll take 4. I was craving a banana with the blackest leaf, but everything in my yeard is now dead from the hard winter's kill anyway, so chartreuse will be a good contrast.

OK hang on a minute;
1'st off I have never used profanity on this website
2'nd I plan to list on the clssifieds once the plants get big enough and we are passed most everyone freeze date. It's just when you have a large number of these bananas you want to get a feel how many people eant some.
3rd You will notice I greatly reduced the price from my initial post as I thought better of making a profit on people who I consider my peers (aka fellow banana nuts)
Lastly I hope I have not alienated anyone on this site as I have enjoyed it immensely.

Anyone can buy, let's say, one large petunia hanging basket for $35, a 6" pot for $10, a partial flat (6 pack) for $2.50, a pack of seeds (20 or so pelletized) for $1, a Thousand seed for $15, pounds of seed for ???...
My point is, That person is buying the size plant they want for a reasonable price. Not everyone is going to want seed or starts. If someone wants a single plant that is already established and can go right into the landscape, they will be willing to pay for it. If that person is thrifty and needs a lot of plants, they may choose to buy smaller ones with the price one would expect to pay for that amount of material.
The same goes for plastic cups. If you want to buy a sleeve of 25 cups, the cups will cost a lot more than a case of the same.
If you want a bag of perlite, you have a choice of paying $5 for a small bag or $15 for a whopping 4 cubes.
I think $5 is a great price for starts when one wants to buy one or a few pieces. $15 would be better for plants that have grown on to be a 1.5' tall or so and have a bit of corm.
1,500 % mark up for just reshipping is far too much. For the small amount of labor involved with potting them and growing them on for a short while this price would be more appropriate.
Just my opinion.

Do you have any photos of what larger versions of these plants look like?
Several years ago when I first started buying plants from Agri-Starts I was asked for a tax id #. The way I was told to get one ( from my town) was to file a C corp (a business becomes incoporated) at which time a tax id # is provided to you via the government.
Hope this clears up your question

Chris, sorry for not recognizing your post was quoting "just j" which is the post that contained the profanity I referenced. Your comments are confusing as it's not clear that you're quoting someone. It would help if you just clicked on that little quote button at the bottom of the post you want to quote. Or you could just use that little balloon button at the top of the reply box (to the right of the picture insert button).

I see a lot of people making posts where they are quoting someone without using the quote button and it just makes the discussion very confusing. In this discussion it was doubling confusing as "just j" quoted you without using the quote button and then you quoted "just j" without using the quote button. I'm certain more people than just me were scratching their head.

Too bad you went through the hassle of incorporating. Your social security number is your taxpayer I.D. and millions of businesses in the U.S. run as a sole proprietorship and simply use their social security number. In some places you might need a business license but its not required to operate a farm in California.

Again, good luck with your sales. I'm interested in seeing what these look like though I'm probably sitting this one out as I have already spent more than I ever imagined on inedible bananas.

Thanks for bringing it up, Harvey.

I had similar complaints from other members, even before your above post, and I wanted to make the clarification earlier that Tophersmith was just responding to just_j's comments. But unfortunately, I was at work and could not do it right away. I've already corrected the subject post. If you read it again, I'm sure that you will notice the difference.
