I'm in zone 6 and producing fruit is a 2 to 3 year ordeal but I enjoy it. It turns into a neighborhood party when the bunch ripens lol! It's so funny how so many people find it interesting how bananas fruit. Bananas aren't to hard to grow and are very rewarding .

If you get banans on zone 6, that's a great achivement! Congratulations!
My banana bunch continue to grow but we got late cold weather, so the first hand and most exposed bananas died. The rest is growing! Lets see if i get some to try in the end...

That's great your banana tree is fruiting on right station... by bunch suffered a lot with late cold and many bananas died. I still have bananas there but i think they will not grow more and fill... i don't know if i will take it down or wait a bit more...

Thanks! It flowered on January so it got burned with the frost.

Musa dajiao is a special banana variety. Da means "big" and jiao = "banana". It is a cross between the Musa sikkimensis and Musa balbisiana. This banana grows very fast and you do not have to wait long for a big banana.
The underside of the banana leaf is set with a white haze.
It is a large, well-edible banana that tends to "Namwah" in taste. The Musa dajiao must be able to overwinter frost-free.

In the open ground in winter, this banana would freeze all the way to the ground. This is not fatal for the banana plant, it will come back from the roots in the spring.
The banana plant would not produce bananas because it must be at least 2 years old to be in bloom.
The Musa dajiao comes from China and the banana is used a lot for consumption.

Good luck with the flower:)

Your orchids and fruit from your web link look awesome too.

For apple pie use Northern Spy is the mantra around these parts.

Nice, looking great. I am assuming given the cross you mention, the fruit has seeds, correct? If so, and you are willing, I would be very interested in buying some from you.

Thank you. I guess it would need a pollinator, which of course, depending on what that was, would affect the nature of the progeny. Keep the pictures coming :D

No, Da Jiao is self fertile. Very cold hardy and good flavor bananas.

Gabe said mine is regular Orinoco. Unfortunately I can't post pictures here (can't resize them for forum). To me they tasted excellent and maybe I even let them to over ripe 2-3 days. You can send me mail address or WhatsApp contact in PM and I can send you pictures of fruit there.

They sound delicious. I just meant, in order for the fruit to contain seeds, it would need a pollinator. I have no doubt the fruit will fill out with or without another flowering banana plant around. Definitely keep us posted on its progress:08:
