It's normal for the older, lower leaves to slowly yellow and die. As long as the plant is producing new healthy leaves, there's nothing to worry about. If you have it indoors and the average temperature is cool (say less than about 70 F) and there isn't bright light, don't expect it to grow much.
Darjeeling Giant is a seeded banana, so you shouldn't expect edible fruit from it. |

Here is a photo which depicts yellowing of the leaves which is normal as stated in the previous post.
This photo was taken in the fall when days were short with cooler temperatures . The plants are shedding their unwanted leaves somewhat. You may trim off the unsightly leaves if you wish or leave them on the plant, your choice. Your plant will actually look a little worse as time goes by, but when spring comes around and you put the plant outside it will sort itself out and look good as new. Our plants react very quickly to these negative changes. When one sees their plant in the stresses of winter one wants to water and fertilize it ......do resist, your plant is not growing so it does not need the same amount of water as it requires in the summer months. Generally the winter months is when folks tend to overwater and kill their plants. ![]() Yellow leaves from diminished sunlight by Hostafarian, on Flickr |
