Hello!! And my first ???
First off Hello to all. I have just puchased a super dwarf banana plant from Stokes tropical. They told me it would do well where I live but I'm a bit concerned. After during some further research I'm worried about the longevity of the plant. I live in zone 17 in the sunset western book. If anyone has any info, tips or insight on to keep it thriving and I would love to have fruit in a few years if possible. Thanks in advance,

Re: Hello!! And my first ???
Hi stinky, welcome, maybe you can tell us the name of the banana and
wether it is in a pot or in the ground and were/how you intend to store it in the winter. Ron |
Re: Hello!! And my first ???
The name is Musa acuminata 'Super Dwarf Cavendish' Annd I plan on keeping it in a pot. Not to sure the size? As for winter I plan on keeping it indoors, unless advised other ways. Thanks again

Re: Hello!! And my first ???
It should get a few feet tall (plus leaves) and would benefit from being outside during warm weather. Looking at the description for Sunset zone 17, you don't get a lot of heat in the summer but you also don't get as many cold days as me in zone 14 (I'm in USDA zone 9, don't know what your USDA zone is). You can keep it in a pot and once it is established in the pot keep it outdoors during warm weather and bring it inside during cooler weather.
Visit the wiki for a little bit more information http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musa_%27...f_Cavendish%27 Also, Going-Bananas at http://www.going-bananas.com/descriptions.htm says: Quote:

Re: Hello!! And my first ???
Mine fruited but the fruits were about an inch long and obviously not edible. I have seen pictures of others that have grown edible fruit but most people say they are a waste of time and I would have to agree.
