By the way...

Although blurry because the pic was taken through glass on a cloudy day, you can see what I see everyday through my living room window, and how I will have a full view of the banana plant as it grows in the middle of my lily garden...

Not only that, I see also lots of space that I know for sure will be full of banana plants in the future as well. :D ;)

Hope you don't burn the leaves by put it straight out in sun light, need to move out over several weeks to full sun from the shade!

Well, my mom got me paranoid and told me that my banana plant in the nice green pot was too pretty for out back and that it should be enjoyed indoors by me.

Needless to say, I have now brought it inside! I am so glad I changed my mind - or my mom did, because I sure am enjoying it so close by.

Here it is now...





I also re-thought things and dug up the pup in the lily garden, and potted it up in a large container, placing it by the back door, to replace the one I brought in. I want to protect both of them inside this winter and put them out next Spring, I decided.

Also too, I am germinating some of Tog's seeds so I may have more banana plants yet! I do want to grow one in the ground and definitely will, but I just changed my mind about the basjoo's and where I initially had them. Sorry for the confusion.

I will let you guys know how things go, and I will take a shot soon, of the pup from the lily garden that is now in a big container by the back door. It's not as nice as my one above, and needs some more time yet.

Yup - I am certain that several banana plants will be ordered before the year's out! I am pretty satisfied though right now with my basjoo's - plus Tog's awesome seeds.

Here is the other basjoo pup that I dug up from my lily garden. It is in the squarish pot beside my cream colored container water pond. Not quite as lovely as the one in the pretty green pot, but coming along. I am so happy now that they are both more close by.

Loving watching them grow...

Yup - now I have one inside, as well as outside! Both will be inside though for the winter. Does this mean it will produce fruits when I put it outside again in the Spring?!!! I wanna see them because they're so ornamental.

From my experience I think you're wise overwintering them both indoors. At least for the next year or 2 (they're baby plants). Get as big a corm underground to start with as you can. Make sure they have the biggest pots you can give.

But do keep them in low temps, just above freezing for the winter. If you want to keep them in warm and dry conditions, you might fail, because they need their rest period!!!
If they miss it, they won't be doing well at all...

I can keep one or both in the cool foyer over winter, but was planning to keep one in my living room. I have an indoor fountain that keeps the air quite moist even in winter. I will judge by how the plants respond, I guess.

Read so much contradicting information, so I am just trying to get a bit of experience so I can see for myself. So many different ways to do things I am certain. For now though, all is well.

P.S. Although a bit off topic - Look what garden surprises I woke up to today - more lilies!

The 1st one is called asiatic 'Conneticut King', and the
2nd is oriental 'Acapulco'...

Ok - wasn't going to show this close-up peek because this pup isn't as perfect as my other one, but it will be. It is still recuperating from being dug up and out of my lily garden. It has a few small rooted succulent cuttings in the pot with it also.

Wow, good luck with the succulents next to the nana, which is a water hog when outside in the summer.Which lotus are you growing?

No need to worry Saltydad - anything that gets in the way of my banana's healthy development and growth will be removed! The succulents are just newly rooted cuttings yet.

I am growing a red nelumbo nucifera - have pink, yellow, white and cream colors also. I grow them from seed, like I do mostly all of my plants.
