Oh yes, I already posted a notice in our building as well as the building next to ours, informing people what is going on.
Tenants are very angry and feel like they were stolen from as well. Everyone really enjoyed the plants, and so the thieves didn't just steal from me, but from everyone in our building! : O |

The thieves are definately going to be paranoid for a long time to come knowing everyone is ticked off at them and watching.
The only trouble I've had at my home was a bunch of kids who went through the neighborhood slashing tires. They got my car and my truck. I noticed something wrong with my tire before I hit the highway. Over $200 for new tires. I was fit to be tied. The new officer who came out treated it like a joke- "just kids having fun." If it's so much fun, let them slash their parent's tires and see how funny it is. Anyway I found out many homes in my neighborhood had been hit, over $4,000 in damage. And the same cop- "it's just kids having fun." I decided to have fun. I got together a reward, $200 and sent the word out on the street to every kid who passed by that the money was for the arrest of those who did it- NO QUESTIONS ASKED! It only took a week before a member of the group turned the others in. I got the other car owners together and we went as a group to the police station. I asked who turned the group in, and gave him the money in front of the others. When he started to leave, I asked where he thought he was going. His father replied that they were going home. I replied: "I said we would not ask any questions. We never said we would drop the charges!" We asked for the money to cover our tires immediately- we had the receipts with us. The parents had a choice: pay the damages or be prosecuted and sued, watch the thugs go to juvy. They paid. No one has had a problem since. At least not from them. It pays to get justice. Perhaps a "no questions asked" reward will help here. Criminals let their greed guide them. :ha: |

Well, I am Basjoo-less no more!!!
: O A kind soul from this forum just sent me another basjoo, and a dwarf cavendish too - I am thrilled to have another basjoo! I'll show pics later - just a stump right now. So grateful to have a second chance. The thieves will never get this one. : ) P.S. Although it was comical to entertain thoughts of, I did not offer a reward for my stolen plants - I've been too busy potting up all my new pups! I have several other new ones also, so it's made me pretty much forget what happened - which might be a good thing. I don't want those thieves to rob me of anything else - like my good time. I know how they do it now, so they will never get the chance again. They can drool jealously at the gorgeous specimens - that their rip-off mitts will never touch! : ) |

Not to worry - I have not forgotten this thread. It's just that it is taking awhile for my new basjoo pup to get established.
I am waiting for it to fully push the half torn, half brown leaf up, so I can cut it off, and then all the leaves that follow will be perfect, which is the way I like them be. All is well though, and it's growing. : ) |

I'll be posting pictures of mine shortly. Dwarf Cavendish, my first nana plants ever. They seemed to winter nicely indoors near my windows, with a quarter turn every day.
One of my cats took to nibbling on the leaves; the others don't like the taste. He really only does it when I'm sitting on the couch- sort of like a toddler trying to see what he can get away with. The leaves aren't all torn up, they're fine. He loves watching out the window under a leaf- like a "jungle-kitty." I wonder what he's going to do when they go outside? I'm waiting until the nighttime temps are in their 60's. The only problem I've experienced is those darned gnats. Any suggestions on how to get rid of or control them without poisoning the plants or cats? I did find paw paw trees. They look like twigs now, but in two years I'll have paw paws. Your plant looks beautiful. I'll bet if you talked about the reward money with neighbors, the thieves got the message. They should never come out of hiding and look over their shoulders. :goteam: |

Hey Hollyberry, your plant is definitely looking much bigger!
When in May do you plan to bring it outside? Are you bringing out your pot to acclimatize your basjoo during the daytime? By the way, I'm in Oakville and here are my Basjoos, I plan on bringing them outside soon too. :)  |

woooow is that really the 9 cm plant i sent you in Sept?? oh my god it looks amazingg. good luck with the summer of 2010. thankyou again for thosse seeds, i planted a few tomatos, peppers and passion flora which are doing great. all have tuns of leaves and are getting really big i'll post pics this week sometime. :D

Yup Matt - that's it! It looks good eh? Thanks so much for sharing it with me. It couldn't have some at a better time, just after my other two were stolen.
Unfortunately Squishee, no I won't be acclimatizing it before putting it out because it will likely be ripped off just like my container plants last year! It's very used to strong south sunlight anyway and I intend on putting it out after May 10th. I'll transplant it on a rainy day - my favorite time to put indoor plants into the garden because they make the transition and adjust so much easier. Very Funny Bob! It's inside so I didn't want to let it get too big on me. You just stick to your own plants, and nevermind mine! : ) |

Wow! Winnipeg is warmer than London!! I've had my Dwarf Orinoco outside for about a week already, but had to bring it in because it got cold again. I'm hoping to bring it out again in a few days. Honestly, though, this is a very warm spring - 3 weeks ahead of most years.
The Pseudostem on mine is about 40" now - how about yours? It looks great! Good job! |
