Banana Newbie

I have no experience when it comes to growing bananas or any type of fruit for that matter

I am getting two banana plants from a neighbor who is moving. I am told they are pretty young, but I am not sure if my neighbor knows much about bananas haha. My neighbor says that they are "Musa Truly Tiny Banana" and a "Musa Gran Nain Banana". I live in zone 8b and I really don't know where to start. Ideally I would like to start off these bananas in a container, but I don't know if that is an option. I am clueless as to what type of soil or fertilizers that these plants need. I need help! I figured this would be a great place to ask for advice

Welcome - best to start out in the container they are in.. then send some pics and questions

Welcome! Yeah, it's a good idea to start those in a containers since they're not particularly cold hardy.

I am newbie too. I will receive my gran nain today. My plan is repot it into a bigger pot and add some compost dirt and water it. Until it grows a good size, I will plant it in the ground probably till march or april (depending on the weather conditions).

Welcome. Check out the Wiki section of this site. There is lots of great information there to help you get started with bananas. I bought my first banana plants in April and now have over a dozen growing in my yard. Most of mine are in the ground and a few are in containers. They prefer a well draining soil, like a cactus mix and can do well in a container. Banana fuel is a great fertilizer for banana plants. Good luck with your plants.
