Do you think that if this was truly a basjoo that it would continue to keep its variegation or it would eventually outgrow it. If you cut it down for the winter would it come back up next season back to regular green.

Nice - teenyweeny pot for such a large plant - this a pup? If so if the mother also variegated?

Yeah I don't know he doesn't say if the mother plant was regular or variegated or not. I can't believe it's in a 4" pot either. cant believe it sold for 300 dollars. If it does outgrow its variegation the buyer is not going to be happy he paid that much for it.
Was wondering if anyone has any of their pups come up variegated like that or have seen this before.

Ive never seen one in the flesh - apart from the one I think I may have (see my thread). not really seen that many on the internet either, from what people have told me the variegation doesnt generally last but heres hoping for mine at least.
Ive already had potential interest from a TC company so we will see. |

Will it come back variegated after it has been cut back? - Of course. The genetic
make-up of a plant does not change, just because it has been cut back. Will the pups also be variegated? - Most likely, since they are sprouting from the same corm. Is it a basjoo with all the species' hardiness? No idea! It does have the pinkish midriff though. If I had one I would wait until there are a bunch of pups and then start experimenting. But at >$300.- don't hold your breath to see me buy one, especially, if there is a real chance, that it is a hoax.

Quote:
Now for some ADVICE....keep the plant. Interest from a TC company really means nothing.... you will get a one time low ball payment and that is it, keep the plant. Once the plant is tc your value/demand goes down. Grow the plant out and trade for hard to find plants as long as you can. The plant has more value in your yard than in a tc tray that you do not own. Going rate/cost is generally below 150.00. Do you dare tell of the TC company details? Last edited by cincinnana : 06-17-2015 at 06:46 PM. |

Last one went for more then I wanted to pay.
If I can find one cheaper would be nice to give it a try. Would hate to spend all that money then it not come back next year.
