Default Musa basjoo newbie

Hey everyone.
I recently added to my corner garden need a Musa basjoo. I had it for 5 days and have been watering it everyday since. We've been getting some hot humid days so that's why I've been religious with the watering schedule.

I've noticed that the bottom leaf has been turning yellow and seems to be rotting brown. But I've also noticed a new shoot coming from it which I'm sure is good news. I fertilized with fish fertilizer on day 3 to help with the growing process.

Here is a recent pic:

I'm a little concerned about the droopy leafs but from what I'm reading it's normal due to the sunny weather.

Thanks and hope to hear from you with some advice.

In my trials I found doing nothing is the best care except for some water. Seems like the better I care for them the worse they do. After they get going then I increase care. Every banana I babied is dead.

I have noticed the same thing, Bryce...When small, sparingly water and feed lightly. Once they are three feet or so, you can start treating them like bananas. It's easy to overwater them when young.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

Give it time to get used to it's new environment. It's normal. What's your soil like?

Yes I'll do that. Just keep the soil moist.
I put a mix of triple mix and sheep manure in the hole I dug.

Next time, dig a bigger hole and put gravel in the bottom. Add a lot of sand, like 40-50% to the mix. That way, you'll never overwater. Drainage is important.

I got clay all over my area. I dug the hole about 16 inches and hit clay. Sucks

Your drowning it. Stop watering and replant in as course of
sand or small gravel as you can find. Put in full sun and let it dry out. That's my opinion.

I have mine next to the foundation and I dug a hole about 2 feet dip till I hit rocks, then I added half a bag of sand or more, then about half half of peat moss and composted manure.

I planted 1 basjoo about 8" down and the other at normal height, the one at normal height had droppy leaves for about 3 days but the one planted lower was perfect from day 1. They are both popping out new leaves really quickly now.

You may also want to check the slope of your lawn to see where drainage goes. Ideally if you can dig lower in the direction of the drainage and add sand you will direct excess water away from the plant. Also keep in mind that bad drainage will lead to frozen corm if it doesn't dry out before winter.
