What have I here?

Some said Cavendish, another told me Pisang Ceylon or Rhino Horn, which it looks like to me... Pink leaf stems and all that color in the leaf. Is rhinohorn any good as a fresh banana? I'm not a big plantain person.

It's impossible to say exactly what cultivar this is at such a young stage, but the pattern of the leaf coloring looks very Plantain to me, so 'African Rhino Horn' could be a real possibility, but there are other plantain cultivars it could be well. You can eat Plantains fresh, some people enjoy them, but if you're wanting a dessert type fruit, you should plant something else. If you want a 100% accurate ID you will have to wait until it fruits.

Thanks you guys. I will have to ask my neighbor if he would like a plantain, as I do not really... Limited space and all the time involved, I want bananas. On the bright side, Green earth publishing made the mistake and sent me this instead of the Blue Java I ordered, but when I told him and sent a pic, he sent me two Blue Java right away. (I will post pics once I get them in the ground so you guys can verify, but they look a lot more like it seems a blue java should... All green with kinda pointy bluish green leaves.)

I just ate a ripe plantain that was bright orange and super juicy. More sapote like in texture. I went today to buy some more so maybe I can get an id and get a plant. It was so tasty and good that I would rather eat those than banana. You may want to consider that in your decision making. I can only hope the plantains I have are that good. Don't let the dry grocery store plantains deceive you.

OK... My replacements are in. Here are the two Blue Java replacements I received for the plantain I mistakenly received... Let me know if they look real to you. They seem bluish in color, I can tell you that. There are two pics of each, one front and one back, in order, front and back of each one...

The P stems have since pinked up and the lateral down the middle of the leaves are all pink thru n thru as well... Growing pretty quick, too. Will get pics on here tomorrow. I know it's tougher when they are small, but these look pretty distinctive.

All my TC plants I bought as blue Java ended up namwa. I can say so far namwa is my fastest grower and was the first to start growing after winter. 2 leafs out before Orinoco started. I'm hoping I get flowers soon on mine.

Looks exactly like my namwa. From what I've read most people like them better than the real blue Java.
