Fried bananas….

…for breakfast.

Finally on our second attempt and after 37 hours of sleepless travel we arrived
here 3:30 local time and collapsed into bed. At around 9 am, we both woke up and
went for breakfast. Of course I could not resist, when I saw “fried bananas” on the
menu.

Here it is!
Fried bananas – honey coated, two fried eggs – sunny side up
And the brown disks are hash browns

Back to bed, we slept through lunch.

Dinner was not quite as artfully presented, as customary here, but therefore
the taste was superb:
Sautéed mushrooms with roast duck, tomatoes onions etc, all covered
in a fine sauce, served with steamed rice ($4.-)
The beer was another dollar.

Breakfast the next morning:

Now this is an omelette!
Mushrooms, ham, cheese, tomatoes plus a whole bunch of other ingredients treat
you to a symphony of tastes. A crisp baguette, butter (not shown), strawberry
jam and a cup of great Vietnamese coffee complete a fine start to the day.

I thought, it would be a good idea to bring the laptop along, because WiFI is
now available everywhere, but the reception here in this hotel is atrocious.

Trying to send this has taken me now full 3 days and I have no idea, how long
it will still take, until I get this out. Hopefully the problem will be only here
and due to the present Tet festivities, which will last another three days and
then things will get better.
The worst thing was getting the photos into the Flickr despite all the transmission interruptions. And then, every move within Flickr has to go over
the net. Half way through any maneuver the transmission stops and some of
the work is lost again. All very frustrating.

Interesting hashbrown interpretation -- looks more like some kind of fritter. Duck for $4? Wow!

Thank you for your wishes. We always have a great vacation in Vietnam and we
are still working on this one. As you may have gathered, the food is second to
none here and the climate you can choose yourself, since the country stretches
2000 km (1400 miles), all lined with beaches north-south.

Yes, Kat, they are a bit like fritters, but made from boiled potatoes, instead of raw
ones. but the taste islike nothing you would get at home and that makes it not
just "WOW!" but "WOW! WOW!"

BTW, it looks like some of the technicians got already back to work. The
connection seems to be much better at least for the time being.

Sounds like a part of the world I need to explore one day. I have been to Thailand and really enjoyed the food there, too.

I find Thailand very hot and muggy, unless you go up to Chiang Mai or such.
Vietnam stretches over 2000 km north to south. It can get quite cool and drizzly
up north in Hanoi and Halong Bay, while at the same time it is as hot as in Ko Muk or
Phuket on the Vietnamese island of Phu Coq or in the Mekong Delta. So you can take
your pick. As far as your climate preferences go.

Sorry, Kat, the connections are still pretty lousy, as far as WiFi goes.
Tomorrow we are heading to the old imperial city of Hue. I hope, that we will
find better connections there. In the meantime you could go to my Flickr for
