Default Re: Ensete vs Musa

Species contained in the genus Musa are considered "true" bananas. There are both ornamental (usually considered inedible) varieties, such as Musa zebrina, M. basjoo, M. velutina (dasycarpa) and edible varieties such as Musa 'Ice Cream', M. 'Raja Puri', and M. 'Dwarf Cavendish', etc. Members of Musa can be distinguished by the fact that they sucker or produce pups, whereas members of the genus Ensete do not normally produce pups and are generally considered inedible, except for the corm. They have large, hard seeds in their fruit, which is the main form of propagation.

Do a little looking around on this site and you'll find a lot of good info. Check out the Wiki, too. You'll find the link to it near the top of the page.
