about a week ago when i noticed the first one to emerge in the frontyard...
i pulled a bunch of chips away from it to add some worm castings
noticed it was coming from one of the old stems and the stem was still solid
the top of the stem wasnt under as much chips as i thought..maybe a foot and a half
then i piled the chips back on as i knew there was more cold nights expected
