How is the fruit on this plant ... good enough for sauces? ... to eat out of hand? Thanks in advance for any first-hand knowledge!
Stauntonia hexaphylla.
The leaves themselves are three to five broad lance shaped leaflets held outwards in fan arrangement. The flowers are produced in late spring into early summer and are open spreading campanulate and pointed petal shaped and are white with pink markings with fragrance. It needs a mild garden and a warm bright wall to flower well and produce its purple fruits but if grown in the shade its leaves can reach an enormous size. It is hardy down to about -6c to -8c for short sharp frosts and should have its evergreen foliage protected from harsh winter elements like wind and storms etc.
