The more cold hardy the better, but it doesn’t have to be.
Any suggestions on what variety, and where I might be able to buy it, would be greatly appreciated.

Musa Basjoo for northern zones.
The plant is used like a tropical perennial.
The plant can be found here in the forums or on the internet.
Planted in a zig zag pattern this plant will create a tropical barrier in a couple years.
The plant reproduces freely and reaches 20+ feet with leaves.
Only mature plants will reach the size you want in the first year.
The plants mentioned in previous posts will give you very big thick vigorous plants.
These plants will work for that landscaping project too adding the look you want.
The only down side will be moving these telephone pole sized plants indoors in the winter.
