You may leave alone and let nature run its course.
Having the stem on the plant does not harm it.
Some of my mats are under 8 +inches of wood chips or leaves or dead plant .
Me, I have cut stems close to the ground and I have also just let the mats wilt in the winters cold. No issues either way.
Basjos do not need any additional care when dormant
Good luck overwintering them.
