Re: Wood Chips
Geez I can get as many 15 yards loads as I want. Local Electrical Company is trimming trees all year down here in hurricane land. All clean tropical hardwood much from undeveloped tropical hardwood hammocks. Clean stuff.
I move the 15 cubic yards by shovel and wheel barrow a couple of times a year - not that big of deal. I can do about half the pile in a day. It is hard work though.
Yes I pile it up thick, maybe 6-12 inches ++. In weeks I can see banana roots all the way at the top. I've never had problems with Pstems rotting.
I do the same with my citrus plants too (but I keep the trunk clean) - Ive noticed anything with top feeding roots loves it.
Not to mention where I live the soil is high PH - the wood chips I believe might help in stabilizing the PH of the soil, at least at the surface.
