It's the same way here, every plantain is called a Maricongo,....

A French type plantain is a mini Maricongo or little plantain.

A Horn type plantain like an African Rhino Horn is a giant Maricongo or giant plantain.

....you just get used to it after awhile.


Here all breakfast cereals are called "corn flake", it doesn't matter if it's Raisin Bran or Shredded Wheat, it's called "corn flake".

False horn type is new to Kerala ...I heard a farmer call it hornless nenthran or hornless plantain. But chundillakkannan was there long time ago.
