Re: Might get kinda cold 1st time greenhouse temp test
I feel better about not fighting to tent my DC; it got much colder outside here. Her leaves are now brown and even her pups that I did protect felt the effect of what appears to have been 26 degrees for more than a 5 hours, not much of a warm up today and now another night of 32 for at least an hour or so. (My newer potted pups ganged with potted tomatoes, peppers, etc. appear to be fine under a tarp.)
It's possible I lost half her P-stem--could be all. Fine. Corn is good I know; ground did not come close to freezing. I now live where I should be able to grow bananas without a greenhouse under normal winter temps. These weren't. If she pulls through, I'll dance; if she doesn't, I'll chalk it up to learning a new zone and knowing that the odds of this much cold air all at once won't happen again very soon. I'm probably more philosophical because I had figs die to the ground and come back though their only protection was deep mulch.
Weather happens. I'm sorry it happened to you and to all of us this year.
BTW, the damage doesn't look that bad to me: just leaves that will probably be replaced when it warms up.
