OH YES! When we lived in Moore Haven the pigmy rattlers would sift into the sand at the base of the trees. I remember when we first got Rocky our little rescue and the first time he went to lift his leg this little SOB came bouncing out. I'm sure Rocky didn't have a clue why all of a sudden he was being jerked by the neck all of a sudden mid piddle! That was the end of that I carried a stick and before he was allowed to lift a toe or sniff a tree base, a good scurry of the stick in the sand to make sure the coast was clear...many times it wasn't!
Because Rocky was and still is so little John decided it was best to make a pee pole for him a 4X4 in the dirt with a large screen area around it on top of the sand with some chunky wood chips...he took to it fine and it was far safer then Rocky and I in the rattlesnakes with a stick.
If it got to loud per se', we just moved the pole to a drier area.
I had forgotten all about that till you mentioned it Kubali!
