I got one of of Sandy late spring and it was only 8-12 inches tall but just a few months later it's almost as tall as me...I think they like part sun and not full sun maybe that's your problem. I read somewhere they like shade with filtered sun...if I get some pups I'll try it out. Good luck on yours!
