I was walking past my neighbor's garden plot, and I noticed that his two Double-Mahoi 'nanners
are both blooming. They were both planted on the same day, and must be totally 'in sync' with
each other. He didn't know what they were but I found the tags that had been tossed on the
ground.
As I moved closer, the size of the blooms blew me away. The p-stems are only about 5 1/2 ft
high, and the small height makes the blooms seem even larger. They both appear between
20-22 in. I'll make a more accurate measurement with my tape measure tomorrow.
update - yup, it was right at 22 in.
This one is open a little more than the other one.
The picture doesn't really convey the size of these monsters. I'm still a 'noob' and have
not seen a bloom this large up close.
Here is a peek inside one.
Too bad neither one is a double. I guess that ought to happen next year. Mine is a little smaller
than these, but now I have an idea what to expect.
