Are you sure the corm is dead on that? Looks like the dying tissue is killing healthy tissue around it. Another thing that may be happening is that it is dead all around the plant. The dead tissues seem to shrink. When this happens this can girdle the plant (keep flow of "sap" from roots to top of plant). Make sure there is no green under this. If there is take off the black tissue. Also, with low humidity, you should spray with water. If you dont, plants will get black spots from what I have seen here in Michigan (low humidity during winter).
