Default Am I doing this right?

I have bananas in my garage that I am trying to keep for the winter.
The big p-setems with no leaves are are in their all winter and never leaves the garage until it is time for planting again. There is very little light just a small row of windows at the top of the garage port and it is not heated but since it is texas it never gets to freezing.

However for the small pups in pots I also have them in there together with a few palms and orange tree. Those plants I move out of the garage into the backyard whenever there is good weather forecasted, or rather no risk of frost during the nights, so these plants tends to be in the garage for a week or so and then out side for a few days, in the garage again for a few days etc.
The oranges and palms I know need the extra light this gives them but still loose quite a few leaves during the winter.

What about the bananas had it been better to just leave them in the garage to let them "sleep" even thought hey are in pots?
I lost a few last year that started to rot but I am assuming this could be due to too much water.
Should I continue with this or leave them (the banana pups) in the garage over winter and just drag out the oranges and palms?
