I've had the opportunity to observe fruit development on California Gold w/ and wo/ leaves. The wo/ leaves pseudostem bloomed immediately after the nasty freeze at the beginning of February. So for argument sake, let's say blooming begin at the end of February. In the picture below I'm holding the humble fruit of said pseudostem to the left. Two individual fruits ripened over the past two days, and I decided to bring the bunch inside to enjoy the bounty. The other plant to your right began blooming 10 days ago. It is remarkable how vigorously this plant is growing. Over 5 months of growth to the left and 10 days to your right. I just added a support to manage the quick process. Message? Leaves are pretty useful to most plants.
Also, everybody asks. Flavor of the Cali Gold? Tastes like a better store bought. I'm wondering what the good bunch will taste like.
