You can accelerate their growth by fertilizing them everyday with miracle grow, for me me that would be a labor of love. Given the longer daylight hours you are getting they could be double the size of the last picture by the end of October. Don't forget to water the leaves too not just the roots.

I wanted to make this suggestion as well and maybe it's a little late being mid summer and all but a nice touch to northern tropical landscaping are annual palm trees. Many people spend 100's of dollars in the springtime on flowers but a person could also spend that same money on cheap large queen palms that could stay in the ground and give a nice tropical touch. Sometimes you see queen palms or other palms for as little as 4-10 dollars at home depot or lowes and those are the deals that make it worthwhile.
