Actually, we do get quite a lot of wind; however, most of the dwarf types tend to have a bit stouter leaves. Also, with their leaves being shorter, they don't catch and flap in the wind as much as your taller varieties so they don't tatter as badly. If you'll look at the photo that also shows my 'Ice Cream' banana you'll notice quite a bit of leaf shredding on that plant.
