I, personally, have not tried pinecone ginger (costus) as of yet, but don't believe they would where you live. I assumed, which is my fault, you had hedychiums. They would probably do fine for you with lots of mulch, but the costus... I think you would be pushing it a bit, but you won't know til you try!!! If you have quite a few, leave one out and see what happens, then let me know!!!!
