Re: Variegated Banana Seeds

Forgot to mention. I soaked my seed for 3 days in clean warm rain water, changed with fresh rain water each day. Then after planting have only re-watered with clean warm rain water.

Re: Variegated Banana Seeds

Nothing here yet. Should there be some already? I think banana seeds are very sleepy. I put mine in a moist well drained mix and placed the containers in a large aquarium, with a vented cover, and on...

Re: Veinte Cohol Pups Arrived - It Begins!

Your plants should be ok with the low temps but it surely cold shocked them a little. You are doing what I would do and keep them in pots this year so they have a great start next spring. Are you...

Re: Looking forward to sharing my banana experience in southeastern NC!

Yes it can be overwintered here and will fruit. I always mulched all my bananas well because we are in N.C. and while we can have quite mild winters we always get at least one lower temp freeze (like...

Smile Re: Uganda - a few pics

You the man! Sounds like your method is.... get excited about the seeds, then ignore them, then give them a little attention again but not too much, and then give them a little love but don't let...

Re: Uganda - a few pics

Way to go! With your "A" sprout you have proven all the seed groups are good. Prepare your pots and soil now because these things like to grow fast. Please tell us your sprouting method.

Re: Uganda - a few pics

I thought at 1st that the plant was having trouble with some fungus or some other malady but soon realized it was the color of the banana trunks in your pics. The color was sparse at 1st but each new...

Re: Uganda - a few pics

The two Uganda Ensete plants I have are showing black markings on their trunk. They started a few weeks ago and have been spreading and getting darker. See my gallery. Can not seem to post it here.

Re: Corm refusing to grow

Thanks for the idea. I have had a few corms languish but in some cases I am sure there was a bit of impatience involved.

Re: Corm refusing to grow

Do you mean to leave it submerged for the whole 48 hours? Would any additives to the water (liquid fertilizer, hormones, etc.) be beneficial?

Re: Uganda - a few pics

Well that is just the opposite of what I thought it would have been. Since the "C" seeds were floaters (not all were) I would have thought they were the more dried out ones. Just grasping for clues...

Re: Uganda - a few pics

Good news! Seems like the "C" group is the most successful even though they were the floaters. Can you remember if they were the ones that were from the most dried out or oldest looking plant? I am...

Re: Looking forward to sharing my banana experience in southeastern NC!

Any of the shorter cycle bananas will work. I have, in the past, flowered and fruited many others too but after I started a new business a few years ago and moved to my new property I have not even...

Re: Is this a flag?

I am not very familiar with the dwarf bananas but that does look like it is flowering. It looks healthy enough to make fruit.

Re: Is this a flag?

Since I do not see a picture of that outermost leaf that is smaller my answer is a guess. A flag leaf is a little stiffer and maybe thicker than other leaves. The small outermost leaf, you mention,...

Re: Optimizing Grow Light Height and Duration for Cavendish Bananas: Advice Needed

As you lower the light it will give a much smaller light footprint and so you will not be giving light to as many plants or as strong light to the ones at the outer edges. I burned the white part of...

Re: Transport of containered banana between properties

Make sure you keep the plant warm the entire move. Do not fertilize it for a week or two before the move. Water it 2 or 3 days before the move and not again till it gets to it's new home. Unpack it...

Re: Stunted Ae'Ae ?

Well if you have kept an AeAe alive outside over winter you can count that as "You have done good". Glad to hear that. It should be about ready to show some better growth. Hoping you have a better...

On the coast here in N.C. we have had a fairly warm winter so I know you must have too. Just wondering how your AeAe is doing. Hope it recovered well.

Re: Uganda - a few pics

I had not heard that either, but read it in the germination forum of this site last night. It does not make sense because that is not something nature does but sometimes nature can fool us. I am...
