Re: Veterans Day freebies for vets & active duty military

Here’s a list of current discounts from the folks that posted the original Veteran’s Day list; https://themilitarywallet.com/military-discounts/

Re: Home depot Blue java or Namwa?

It’s my understanding that the whole “Ice Cream” theme got started by folks doing an online search for “best banana” or something like that.

I pretty much decline to use the term, as the name has...

Re: Cutting back question

Getting a Blue Java to fruit in Ohio is probably going to require a heated greenhouse of some sort.
You’ll have way less headaches going with a dwarf variety that can be lugged inside for winter,...

Re: New tree not growing.. help!

‘Nanners are notoriously hungry feeders, fond of that extra blast of potassium but if recently repotted, will frequently produce their growth primarily as roots, & when the pot gets filled, the...

Your plant was probably just stressed, is it growing again?
When the trunk gets trashed, there’s a good chance you can salvage the corm.

Re: Hello California U.S.A Banana Growers

We have had good results from Dwarf Orinoco here in Sacramento, & the Blue Java has been doing almost as well.
For non-fruiting, oddly enough, Mekong Giants have been hanging in there somehow.

Re: best banana for sacramento, ca

Orinoco is a great cooking banana, my favorite for frying. Usually not as sweet as the store variety but with a more complex flavor.
There are some good Asian grocery stores in town that will have a...

Re: best banana for sacramento, ca

Basjoo are the all time favorites around Sac but as for edibles, Dwarf Orinoco do pretty good around here.
By buddy has had good luck with Blue Java but it does lousy by me.
What's your altitude?

We had to cut down a couple trees that provided a little partial shade so the Dwarf Orinocos are baking on the South facing wall of the house (but providing excellent shade for my office).

Re: Is there anything I can do about raccoons?

"Someone" would transplant the critters to the local campground so they could raid the tourista's coolers.

Re: Hey, are these lychees?

Yah, it's hard to tell, especially with that bird netting on 'em.
The guy that sent me the pic had loquats, so he *should* know what those look like.
(unless he's yanking my chain again)

The term "Ice Cream" banana is practically useless, because it has been used to name at least 2 different cultivars.
Also, somewhere on the web, "Ice Cream" has been referred to as being the best...

Re: I want to buy pups of banana

The US has no export restrictions; where you could run into problems is entering back into Italy, so it's the Italian import regulations you should be looking into.

Re: Attack of the Mockingbirds - haaaalp!

Never fear; if both birds are off the nest, then it means the eggs have [probably] hatched & you only have a couple-few more days of the little guys being in the nest.
