I use sand in some of my work.
Play sand is washed, dried and screened to get a uniform grain size then packaged.
Mason sand is unwashed, and has larger screens so you get more variation in grain...

I have 4 Orinocos, all rescued from a landscaping job, they were damaged and the root balls dry.
I placed them in a raised bed, lots of compost, and some 12-12-12 slow release.
I had to cut back...

4 rescued Orinocos. A Friend who landscapes dug them up and dropped them off. Pstem on the 4 foot one was bent and broken in 2 spots, cut it off, hope that it recovers, the smaller guys all look...

Well not today exactly, in the last week...
Fished out 3 water lily corms and potted them, they are now in the "nursery tank".
My ginger (edible) bed now has 10 shoots from 2" to 8".
