I grow basjoos exclusively down here in the beaches usually using the cage method for winter protection (see photo gallery) keeping about five or six pups in the basement for backup.

Well, I went completely overboard this year and built a large cage around mine, triple wrapped it with burlap, stuffed it with straw and covered the top with a plastic tarp to keep the rain and snow...

I'm not sure whether that is correct or not but to be on the safe side I am going to try and keep as much of my stem as possible. Even so, this is probably going to be only about three and a half...
