About a week and a half ago, we had a record setting frost take place (earliest I can remember) where temperatures were between 27-35 throughout the state.
The local stations in my area, including...

Re: Dwarf Namwah update
Next year definitely will be. I have left 5 large daughter plants around the original mother. they are approaching her size now but do not appear quite ready to flower. The trunk is nice sized, but...

A few days ago I noticed a flag leaf, and today we have a flower forming.
Unfortunately this came at the wrong time of year, and I don't expect bananas from it. Would have been nice however. It does...

Musa Ingens?
Is there anyone growing this species? It is supposed to be absolutely massive.
Due to its size alone I would expect it to have considerable cold hardiness.

Re: Dwarf Namwah update
Thanks Bill.
The newest leaf has unfolded as of this morning and appears intact with another shoot emerging about 4 inches currently.
Do namwahs not normally pup this heavily? What may cause this?

Pisang Raja ? Experiences? Cold Tolerance?
Hi all,
I would like to know if you have any experience growing this variety, and its cold hardiness.
I had the opportunity to try several of these recently and they are by far my favorite banana...

Re: Dwarf Namwah update
Well, before reading this (of course) I did go ahead and apply gypsum around the area. Based on the link Bill provided I took an educated guess as to what it may be.
We had some 50mph wind gusts rip...

Re: Dwarf Namwah update
Thanks Bill!
I see what you mean now. Perhaps an application of gypsum or lime would help? I have both that pelletized and it would be easy to apply.

Re: Dwarf Namwah update
Thanks all.
We have quite the amount of wind that rolls through our area, but it doesn't seem to shred the leaves. Perhaps the fence offers some protection? The leaves are rather thick.
The...

I am not removing the pups and instead letting them mature around it....

I did assume it was a TC plant.
Humidity here is typically pretty high - 70% currently.
Its under the patio in dappled light out of direct sun.
I am not sure when to up-pot it however, of it I...
