Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

Thanks all. I'll add shade and above-ground sprinkler/humidity to see if that is going to be the big fix for my site.

Still have a nagging feeling that I am doing something wrong, since others in...

Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

That's a good point George, because mine don't go from wilted to brown. They usually go from happy to raggedy edges to brown. I'm thinking the sun is getting them first, and then I am overwating in...

Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

Both potted and in-ground plants suffered a similar fate. I'll grab some pics and post shortly.

Our soil is ph 8+, tap water is hard, and in-ground plants were mulched 6" earlier this year. Many...

Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

This year looks like it's going to be yet another sad banana summer here in Phoenix AZ.

I am having chronic problems when the temps kick up, and what begins as sunburned leaves always ends up as...

Re: CNBC Banana history...

I saw this and was immediately reminded of the old UFC footage (linked on this forum) from the 40s. On that video I thought "Huh, they had airplanes in the 1940s?" and on this special I really...

Re: New to Bananas - need a recommendation!

Find a reputable nursery or come down to Phoenix for nursery or the AZRFG plant sales (fall is next, November?). Or, find people who are into plants online that you can buy from. Buying a pup from...

Re: Can these bananas be saved

They'll be just fine. A few leaves burned off but new ones will grow. They look to have enough size that there will be sufficient energy in the "trunk" to keep on trucking. Don't overwater while the...

Re: Zone 9a/9b (Inland SoCal) Cultivar Suggestions

Here in Phoenix some of our top picks are Dwarf Namwah and Rajapuri. Lots of Ice Cream bananas here they just need propping to fruit.

We have a similar climate if not a little colder even, and I...

Re: Best Bananas to plant?

Here in Phoenix we have a lot of clay soil, and I have been so surprised that the bananas don't seem to mind it. We have to water a lot of course (and mulch to keep it from evaporating away) but darn...

Re: Looking for Praying Hands

A quick update on Praying Hands - looks like this variety is now being tissue cultured as of Nov 2017. So hopefully this variety will be easier to find in the future.

Looking for Praying Hands

Ideally a very small pup or piece of corm, that I can grow indoors over the winter. Have several other varieties and looking for a novel addition.
