Re: Banana Score!
Here is an update on the banana score... ALL of the plants survived! I have even neglected some of them and everything has flourished. Nothing has bloomed yet... maybe because of the very wet summer...

Re: Strange plant
I've tried in ground and containers... different varieties... they get to bloom stage and start getting diseases and worn out (in ground by nematodes). I know a farmer down here that put chicken...

Re: Strange plant
I didn't recognize it. I grew horseradish up North as a crop to sell. It can take over everything once it gets established. The leaves are large and grow straight up almost. I knew another farmer who...

Re: Blue Java Maybe Namwah Pix Healthy.
I know, that's what I mean... they are very tender plants. I don't have a sunny window and decided not to put a greenhouse this year so the plants had to fend for themselves... if the plants don't...

Re: Blue Java Maybe Namwah Pix Healthy.
They look like they are coming along nicely. I got some plants from Wellspring about 2 months ago that are barely hanging on. Their plants are very weak... looks like they barely grow their TCs...

Re: Bittersweet Bloom
OK.. thanks. I had just put down composted manure about a month ago, not sure if that is related to the emergence of the bloom.

Bittersweet Bloom
My first bloom! The only issue is that the frost a few weeks ago has really damaged this DC. Every leaf it has put out since was damaged... and wouldn't you know... the bloom set was in there too....

Thanks! Not sure what type that is b/c it was taken at Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales FL (two weeks ago). I thought maybe it was a dwarf or super dwarf Cavendish type. I have a dwarf Cavendish that...

Re: Banana Score!
That's true, they are def vigorous. But why does it seem like they are so willing to grow on neglect lol? I've fished a few good things out of my compost heap that ended up growing better than the...

Re: What did you plant today (bananas)?
I put in about 8 plants today. Problem is I have no idea what they are b/c they were given to me. I'm hoping to get help identifying them. I do know that they are all edible types... so that's the...

Re: Banana Score!
I'm sort of concerned that the larger ones will leaf out and not be able to provide enough water to sustain them. Hopefully they root up fast enough. Should I keep cutting off the leaves as they...

Re: Banana Score!
That's basically what I did, but no Super Thrive. I've never used that, I'm more used to fish emulsion to reduce shock. I'm sure these plants are going to be shocked no matter what. I had to cut...

I planted some of them today. I went with the bleach dip. I did inspect the roots as well as I could. Most of the plants had very little roots on them b/c they were taken from large mats that were...

Re: Banana Score!
You don't find that the bleach harms the roots at all? Maybe just a really weak solution? I didn't get that many roots with each plant, don't want to fry what little roots they have. Of course...

Banana Score!
Found some free bananas on a Craigslist post, so how could I resist? The lady giving them away had quite a few mats of various kinds to be dug up. It was very difficult to chip away at the mats, but...

Re: Florida: The Frozen South
I have noticed how beneficial the lake is for keeping the temps up... you've got a warm spot there. Why does it always seem to be the east side of the lake? B/c the town of Okeechobee seems to be one...

Re: Florida: The Frozen South
I'm learning... up north it's usually colder as a rule too. Down here the frost is unusual since there are usually only about 3 or 4 of them each year here.
