Re: Musa AE AE pictures & question

I hope so Jim, it will be fun to watch! Hopefully the wind doesn't beat it up to much, I'm going to tuck it into a pretty sheltered spot. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Musa AE AE pictures & question

Hey Jesse,

Yeah, the big one has sprung up for sure, the smaller one is working on roots I'm thinking.

To answer your question, the two nanas are within 6 feet of each other with identical...

Re: Musa AE AE pictures & question

Jim,

It really is crazy watching this nana grow! The bigger one puts out 4-5 leaves to one on the smaller one.

It broke the last leaf as it pushed against the ceiling in the greenhouse. I think...

Re: Massachusetts Banana progress 2011

Crabman,

I'm interested what other plants you are growing down the cape. Where are you located? The Island side of the cape has some serious microclimates!

Thanks

Re: Massachusetts Banana progress 2011

Nice plants tmc2009

You have the right idea planting them in big wide pots if your overwintering them inside.

It's about time we get some real nana growing weather here.

Thanks Tony, I won't give it any fertilizer for the rest of the year and I'll try and pick out the slow release pellets.

Re: Musa Basjoo?

Don't worry about the red in basjoo, they often grow red when there maturing. My very large patch is showing similar characteristics after a cold winter.

Clare,
I hear you on the shipping costs on the nana fuel. I used it last year with crazy results, I'm ordering again even if it seems high. You could always order enough for two years.

By the way the biggest nana I dug up and hauled to the basement (orinoco) had a circumference of 30 inches at the base. 9 foot clear trunk, it was a heavy sucker!

A rose cone is a cheap styrofoam thing that looks like a small tapered trash can. I'm sure you could find it at Lowes or HD, I never looked for one before though.
