Re: School Wants Banana Plant for Greenhouse
A veinte cohol planted outside after danger of frost in April can actually produce bananas by October in colder areas, but New England may have too short a growing season for that. But a container...

Re: School Wants Banana Plant for Greenhouse
Hi, a fast banana plant that is also not sensitive to cool weather more or less is the veinte cohol. From a young plant to producing a stalk of bananas is only about 6 months & another month for the...

Re: banana plants all dying
Unfortunately, still working 7 days a week over 60 hours. Not much time for anything. Most of my bananas are down to the ground now in the back yard. Dead, I guess, either broken over & rotting or...

Re: banana plants all dying
Well, here it is a year later. Mild winter. The ice cream pups that survived all the dying were doing great (about 7 feet tall) until about 3 weeks ago. Thought it was heat stress even though other...

Re: banana plants all dying
Oh, I know this may sound strange, but water was something at this location I had to be careful with. Watering more than once a week during hot weather & I had trouble. I had to use cactus palm mix...

Re: The Pineapple Diaries
Myself, I've kept pineapple tops just in water for weeks at a time. They grew roots & I planted them. If they were kept in cold storage, sometimes after you get them home they start to die. Also...

Hmmmm? I was interupted when I was making a comment on your post. Excuse me if I am repeating, but I can't find my comment. I've been raising pineapples as house plants for over 40 years. They are...

Re: Bananas in the desert
I haven't had a chance to compare the Texas Gold to the Orinoco growing at the same time. But I agree, the TG is probably a just a slight variation of Orinoco or another close one. The same with the...

Right not it is only about 90 degrees. I am only watering once a week unless by checking with my hands I find the soil not moist. I never want it to stay soaking wet all the time. With the...

I live in Phoenix & have lost more plants to being too wet than anything else. I starting using cactus-palm mixture soil to get good drainage & 100 % improvement. Young plants or corms here just...

The Texas Gold is one that should do okay in your area. It can take both heat & cold. Aaronsfarm.com is where I got mine. I recommend the larger corms. Plant in cactus-palm mixture with some good...

My ice creams survived 17 degrees in my back yard with just netting & some sheets here in Phoenix. Our last frost was 3 weeks ago. Same type of winter here...first a week or two of 70's then a frost....

Re: My history in AZ with bananas
Thanks for the mango info & place to buy. I love mangos, but the few nights every year below 30 degrees is my worst problem. The other has been forgetting to water & they burn up in this desert sun.
