Supposedly it's hardy when mulched correctly in my USA 7a zone. Also called musa Yunnan it seems from what my research turned up.

Hi Siege

Here in the UK the plant does sucker a bit but wouldn't be out of control and could easily be dealt with a hoe or every now and again ripping (not cutting as this just creates a coppice)...

Temp is not too bad now, its only in the teens at worst, could easily be single digits and below zero. That would be bad, especially before this snow cover. The heavy snow, 30 or so inches today...
