Even if the main stem dies, the corm may send up new pups. Don't give up hope.

#1 if you put in the ground once you got it quit cutting, don't water it except far away from the stem sparingly. I did the w/ a plant that got beat up in the mail and a month later its grown its...

Mine is the Saba banana because mine got chewed up twice by my Great Dane puppy. Two years in the row the poor plant lost all but maybe one leaf which was also pretty chewed up. The plant was around...

Almost every citrus state in the USA is under a citrus quarantine so it is illegal to transport plant material. I think the only exception now is Louisiana. You should check in your area as well.
