Mine are growing well also, and it has already hit 108f in my yard in the shade. There are now about 14 stalks that are fruiting. The latest being a saba. I was kind of hoping it would get taller...

I'm in Arizona also, North East Mesa, so not too far from you. My bananas have been growing like weeds also. In fact twelve of them are currently fruiting. Mine get very little shade, getting blasted...

Re: Lots of blooms and bananas

Four more new blooms today. That makes twelve total fruiting at the moment. I'm not quite sure why everything is going "bananas" at that moment.
Sorry about the crap pun!

It seems as though it's banana season around my house. I have at least eight banana plants that have either bananas or blooms on them at the moment. Some plants even have two sets of stems giving...

Re: giant banana speicies

Some people are selling seeds of that species, but I dont know if they are genuine. Sabas are supposed to get close to that height although I have never seen one that tall.

Re: Tallest largest Banana plant personaly grown

The wells cost over 40k, I would hope that I am unaffected due to a grandfather clause. Otherwise they are going to have a fight on their hands! What are they going to tell me next, that I have used...

Re: Tallest largest Banana plant personaly grown

Well I guess I will find when the hot weather gets here. I will put 2 4gpm emitters per palnt and double the water doses to 80 gallons every other day. If they take that ok I may increase further. As...

Re: Tallest largest Banana plant personaly grown

We have mostly sandy soil here, but I trucked in 120 tons of top soil and I put about 12 cubic feet of potting soil with every banana I plant, so I'm not sure how much water they can take with that...

Re: Tallest largest Banana plant personaly grown

Wow! I wonder if its the water or the heat or the relative humidity. I have a pretty much unlimited supply of water here as I have my own well, and tons of heat except for about 2 and a half months...

Re: Tallest largest Banana plant personaly grown

The tops of the stems range from about 7 to 9 feet and the tops of the plants probably about 9 to 11 feet, depending on the plant. The leaves are pretty tore up right now due to the winter and the...

Re: Land Sharing - Tapping into wasted spaces

I've got 40 acres mostly going to waste up in snowflake az. Little cold for bananas but could be used for farming. Not exactly near a large city though lol. It has a 1300 sq ft modular home on it,...

Re: Extra 7 degrees goes a long way

It's a little too late for this winter. Some of my stuff got pretty crispy when it dipped to 27 on a few nights, but is this stuff ever going to actually make it to market, or is it vapor ware?

Re: subtropical papayas?

Yah I could not find any either, and I looked pretty extensively. I will pay whatever a source wanted (within reason) if there are some sweet sue seeds available. It gets a little cool in the winter...

Re: subtropical papayas?

I've planted about 15 mostly from 3 gallon pots. I killed 14 of them! The one survivor left is a solo I believe. I have almost killed that one about 5 times! It's been in the ground for a year and...

Re: History was made tonight

Certainly if a minority person holds the highest office in the country, and he was elected by the countries population, this proves AA is no longer needed.

Re: History was made tonight

Well I guess this must mean that they are going to do away with affirmative action. It must be obvious to all but the most dense that it is certainly not needed any longer.

Re: banana/other plants in the desert.

I think the altitude might come into play if it made it cooler, but in my case it still reaches 115-120f in the shade on a regular basis. I still think the key is giving them enough water which will...

Re: banana/other plants in the desert.

I wouldn't think that has much to do with it my elevation is only like 2000ft, but you never know. Besides my attitude is if it lives it lives if it dies it dies. So I dont usually jump through hoops...
